HIGH POINT— The renovation of Showplace West is moving ahead with Downtown High Point officials naming a developer for the project, according to a report in the Rhino Times.
An anchor building in the heart of downtown High Point, Showplace West/One Plaza Center will be redeveloped as market-rate apartment housing with roughly 9,000 square feet of commercial space on Wrenn Street and Main Street, according to the report.
Yesterday, Downtown High Point officials announced that Echelon Resources Inc., a Virginia-based rehab development team, has been selected for the extensive renovation project.
The Showplace West/One Plaza Center building is North Carolina’s first National Register-listed building from the 1970s. According to economic development officials quoted by Rhino Times, the new project is expected to become “another catalyst for additional investment in the area and bring 365-day life to our historic downtown.”
