Step into any furniture, or mattress, store and there’s one constant you’ll find: The retail sales associate (RSA).

These foot soldiers of retail are the frontline educators, the problem solvers, the trusted guides helping consumers navigate the often-overwhelming world of bedding. While products evolve, marketing strategies shift, and digital technology evolves, the human connection remains critical to maintaining and building consumer networks.

More times than not, that connection starts with the RSA.

Too often, retail sales associates are overlooked, the unsung heroes of selling. The job requires an intricate blend of knowledge, patience and interpersonal skills. Today, RSAs must understand the science of sleep, the engineering of mattresses and the psychology of sales — all while ensuring customers feel heard, valued and confident in their purchase. It’s no small task.

Technology in mattress builds continues to advance, and sleep science and the critical role it plays in overall health and wellness is constantly changing.

Yet, when we talk about the bedding industry’s successes, RSAs don’t always get the credit they deserve. That’s why Furniture Today will turn a spotlight on these on-the-floor faces of the retail industry through our first Bedding RSA Awards at the 2025 Rest Revolution Bedding Conference.

The RSA Awards recognize the best and brightest retail sales associates in the bedding category — those who go above and beyond to educate consumers, build trust and deliver outstanding sales figures and customer service. This is our chance to acknowledge the individuals who are the backbone of retail, the ones who drive sales, foster loyalty and create exceptional shopping experiences.

Recognizing these individuals is more than just an award; it’s a way to celebrate the people who make the industry thrive. RSAs are often the deciding factor in whether a customer walks away with the perfect mattress and a life-changing sleep experience from your store or, turns to the Internet or a competing store down the street.

Their efforts deserve to be seen, appreciated and rewarded. By celebrating their contributions, we uplift the entire bedding community and set a higher standard for customer service and industry excellence.

If you know an RSA who exemplifies excellence, now is the time to nominate them. Maybe it’s someone who consistently exceeds sales goals while maintaining top-tier customer satisfaction. Perhaps it’s an RSA who takes extra steps to ensure a shopper finds the perfect mattress for their needs. Or maybe it’s an associate who has mentored others, fostering a culture of knowledge and professionalism within their store.

The nomination process is simple, but its impact is profound. By highlighting exceptional RSAs, we not only recognize their individual contributions but also underscore the critical role that retail sales associates play in the broader industry. Their work is more than just selling mattresses; it’s about improving people’s lives through better sleep.

Nominations are open through Feb. 28, so time is critical. The nomination form is on our website.

As we prepare for this year’s Bedding Conference in Orlando, set for May 13-15, let’s take a moment to appreciate the dedication, expertise and passion of RSAs. They are the bridge between product innovation and consumer satisfaction, and their efforts deserve celebration. So, nominate an outstanding RSA today and help us give these retail heroes the recognition they’ve earned.
